Auditor candidates point to experience, background

In the primary race to be Montana's next state auditor, candidates from both parties are pointing to their background and experience as what separates them from their opponents. The auditor's office is open as Republican Auditor Matt Rosendale is not seeking re-election and instead running for the U.S. House.

My desire to run for the office of Montana Auditor (Commissioner of Securities and Insurance) originates with my extensive background in all three areas the Auditor is responsible for: Insurance regulation, securities regulation, and a vote on the state’s Land Board. The decision to run was difficult. I am not a politician, have never run for office and have no designs on a career in politics. I didn’t join the race until late in February—barely three months ago. When I looked at the other candidates in this race, I knew it was important to have a candidate with the experience to do the job, who truly wants to serve, rather than simply use this role to seek another office.

Tuxbury an ‘insurance insider’? That’s a compliment

When state auditor candidate Troy Downing refers to opposing candidate Scott Tuxbury as an “insurance insider” in a current political attack ad, little does he know that he’s paying Tux a compliment. I had the privilege of working with Tuxbury and his team for over 12 years. Tux is honest, hardworking, responsive, accountable and likely has forgotten more about insurance than most people will ever know. Tuxbury works successfully with many different insurance companies, but he doesn’t work for insurance companies; exactly the role of the state auditor (insurance commissioner).

Tuxbury has experience, honesty, dedication

Scott Tuxbury is a candidate with the experience, knowledge and desire to serve as Montana’s State auditor/insurance commissioner. I believe there are few in Montana as well qualified as Tuxbury.” These are the words Montana House Majority Leader Brad Tschida (House District 97) used to describe Scott Tuxbury, the leading candidate for Montana state auditor. In his April 13 letter to the Missoulian, Tschida went on to note that “Tux” is not looking to use the auditor’s role as a way to get to a different position — he really wants to serve Montanans in this role and this role only.

Tuxbury Cares About Ranchers

Over the years, the cost of ranch and farm insurance has been steadily increasing. Fewer insurance companies are choosing to do business in Montana, and our ranchers and farmers are paying the price. Scott “Tux” Tuxbury is the only candidate in the race for Montana auditor with the experience and qualifications to ensure our farmers and ranchers get a fair shake at fair insurance prices. Tux might not run a big farm or ranch operation, but he’s spent more than 37 years listening to Montanans in those businesses. He knows the issues they are facing when it comes to their insurance. I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Scott for years to resolve insurance issues for Montanans. He is a fair and honest man who cares about the price our farmers and ranchers are paying. Montanans don’t need another out-of-state transplant politician running for office here. We need an experienced, principled and honest businessman who can and will help Montana farmers and ranchers get a handle on their insurance costs. It’s time to put real experience to work in the Montana auditor’s office. I hope you will stand with me and vote to support Scott “Tux” Tuxbury for Montana auditor.

Tuxbury is the right person for auditor

As the primary election nears, we hear candidates claiming experience in just about everything. There’s a difference between having some experience, however marginal or far-fetched, and having real expertise to do a job. That is certainly true in the race for Montana auditor. Over the years, the auditor’s position has attracted people who find ways to claim experience, but have no expertise. This year’s primary is different. There is one candidate who has relevant experience and real expertise: Scott Tuxbury. Tuxbury has the credentials and years of relevant experience to serve Montana consumers in this role. He’s no poser and doesn’t have to stretch to find a connection to the job. He doesn’t use gimmicks in his campaign and isn’t looking to buy his way into this elected position. Put your primary election vote behind the one candidate for auditor with expertise and solid, demonstrated experience for the job — Scott Tuxbury.
